Inherited cancer: treating patients and families

The presence of faulty genes influences the risk of developing a cancer, its management, and its prognosis. As physiotherapists we need to understand this topic to help our inherited cancer patients navigate their treatments, as well as to potentially flag patients who may be considered high risk of having a faulty gene. It is a topic that will extend the learning of physiotherapists working in cancer care.

Stephanie White is an Associate Genetic Counsellor at the NSLHD Familial Cancer Service, Master of Genetic Counselling (USYD) 2016 and PhD candidate (UTS): improvement of referral rates for high risk cancer patients from pallitive care to genetics.
