Epidemiology and subjective examination

On completion of this module the practitioner should have sufficient knowledge to: 

  • Understand the significance of the low back disorders in society
  • Complete a sufficiently details body chart and history
  • Gather information regarding behaviour of symptoms and special questions 

Physical examination I

On completion of this module the practitioner should have sufficient knowledge to:

  • Complete a standard physical examination including observation
  • Active movement tests
  • Lower limb neurological examination
  • Provocative neurodynamic testing and palpation.

Classification and diagnosis I - including screening tools and outcome measures

On completion of this module the practitioner should have sufficient knowledge to:  

  • Identify "red flags"
  • Be aware of the complexities in diagnosing low back disorders but nevertheless be able to make a provisional clinical diagnosis
  • Use appropriate screening tools to identify patients at risk of a poor outcome
    • Understand the importance of standardised outcome measures in clinical practice.
