Bladder and bowel dysfunction is common in the aging population and can significantly impact quality of life.
This lecture will provide an overview of the pathophysiology of bladder and bowel dysfunction in the older (65+) population and the role physiotherapists have in investigating and managing this dysfunction for this population, including the top tips for managing bladder and bowel dysfunction in your patients.
Laura Snowball is a Physiotherapist who has worked in Continence and Women’s Health for the past 20 years. She has worked across the spectrum of private practice, private hospital, community outreach and tertiary public hospital settings in Western Australia and Internationally. She has also lectured at both Curtin and Notre Dame Universities in Western Australia. She was lucky enough to work at the Caulfield Hospital in Melbourne for 6 months in an outreach program for the older and frail adult, where she introduced a ‘focus on continence in the older adult’ to the program. She has recently stepped into clinical planning for the future service delivery of the Peel Health Campus, while continuing to work on the Frailty Ward at Fiona Stanley Hospital on the weekends.
