Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS) is a condition that causes considerable morbidity to young active individuals, and significantly increases the risk of early onset osteoarthritis of the hip.. The premature contact between the femoral head/neck region and the acetabulum can cause long term issues, particularly with individuals who engage in high force rotatory activity. Physiotherapy and Orthopeadic surgery go hand in hand to provide patients with optimal management. We will be discussing the role of physiotherapy in conservative treatment, and pre- and post operative physiotherapy. We will also include specific precautions appropriate to the treatment of micro-fracture, Ligamentum teres debridement and labral reconstruction.
In addition, we will discuss the place of surgery, including indications for early surgical intervention, as well as the growing body of evidence supporting surgical intervention. An overview of currently available surgical treatments will be demonstrated. We will also discuss some current myths about “labral tears” .
