Bernard Haylen is Conjoint Professor of Urogynaecology at UNSW Sydney with urogynaecology practices at St Vincent’s and the Mater Hospitals, Sydney. Academically, he has authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications attracting 12,000 citations. He has chaired two International Society Committees (International Urogynecological Association, International Continence Society) on the Standardization of Terminology. In those roles, he has first authored the core Lower Urinary Tract and Pelvic Floor terminologies for women (5000 citations – highest cited urogynaecology publication) and more recently men (500 citations). He is the Founding and Current Editor of the International Continence Society Glossary with over 2000 online definitions. Over 33 years, he has pioneered multiple urogynaecological surgical procedures in Australia including bladder neck injectables (collagen -1992) and Tension-fee vaginal tapes (1998). He is the first author of Chapter 78, the Female Reproductive system (around 30% rewritten), for the upcoming 43rd Edition of Gray’s Anatomy.
