Associate Clinical Professor Jane Rooney, FACP
Specialist Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist – sub speciality knee (2009), Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists, Associate Clinical Professor Swinburne University, Churchill Fellow 2016, Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (1997).
Jane is an Associate Clinical Professor at Swinburne University and an Hononory Clinical Lecturer at Melbourne University. She is also a guest lecturer and clinical supervisor at the La Trobe University and Uni SA post graduate Sports Masters Physiotherapy Program’s. Jane is actively involved in sports titling and specialisation mentoring and examining for the Australian College of Physiotherapists.
Jane is the director of Physio Educators, a company providing specialist level post graduate Physiotherapy education. Jane has written The Acute Sporting Course and presented it around Australia for the past 8 years. She has recently co-written the new Australian Level 1 Dry Needling course with Dr Peter Selvaratnam. This course is being rolled out across Australia in 2020.
Jane has extensive experience in the Sports Medicine field both in Europe and Australia and has worked as a clinician for over 30 years. Jane has worked with international, national and state level athletes in tennis, netball, skiing, cycling, gymnastics and athletics. Jane is a Clinical Director at Lifecare Prahran Sports Medicine Centre.
Jane was awarded a prestigous Churchill Fellowship in 2016, to investigate contemporary conservative programs for anterior cruciate ligament injury management. She visited leading knee injury clinics and researchers around the world. From the knowledge gained Jane has developed The Melbourne Knee Clinic which delivers contemporary evidence based physiotherapy services for knee dysfunction within Lifecare Prahan Sports Medicine Centre, Melbourne. These services include individual Specialist physiotherapy consults, strength and return to sport testing post knee injury, knee injury prevention programs & the GLA:D group exercise program for knee osteoarthritis.
Her professional interests include ACL and other knee injury management, patellofemoral pain and instability, knee osteoarthritis management, athlete screening and injury prevention programs.
