As trusted health professionals, physiotherapists can play a very important role in responding to domestic and family violence (DFV). This eTalk will provide an overview on:

  • The social context of DFV (including key statistics and key research findings)
  • The health repercussions of DFV
  • The role of physiotherapists in responding to DFV; what to do and say to a victim or perpetrator including sources of help and support for victims and for themselves.

 

Presenter

Dr Kathleen Baird  

Dr Kathleen Baird has been a midwife since 1996 and has clinical and academic experience which stretches over two continents. She is currently a professor of midwifery and researcher at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Director of the Midwifery, Maternal and Child Health Research Centre. Dr Baird research work has a strong focus on the health response to domestic and family violence. She is currently the Deputy Chair of the Queensland Domestic and Family Death and Homicide Review Board.
