  • Overview

This candid interview with Phil Hazell, dementia advocate, speaker and trainer – who lives with younger onset dementia – gives an insider’s view of living with dementia.

He’s your everyday regular man, someone you might see in private practice with a sore knee, or in any other health care setting. Hear his views on what he would like you, as a physio, to know about dementia.

No matter which area of physiotherapy or setting you practice in, this eTalk will enlighten you, providing a better understanding of how you might get better outcomes for patients living with dementia.

Phil Hazell is a busy and enthusiastic Advocate for Dementia Australia and one of the first to be partnered with an Assistance Dog. Phil is Chair of the Dementia Australia Advisory Committee and participates in research projects. He has spoken at numerous forums and events and has actively represented people with dementia in media interviews, focus groups, program development and research projects.

Kate Lawler, APAM, PhD, is a physiotherapist and senior lecturer at the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre. She is passionate about the rights of people living with dementia – young and old – to excellent physiotherapy care.
