A discussion on the daily role of physiotherapy in the acute hospital Oncology setting, looking at the benefits, challenges, precautions and treatment techniques utilised and seen by physiotherapists as part of the multi-disciplinary care team. An opportunity to upskill physiotherapists who work in or have an interest in this area.
Presenters
Lisa Parry, APAM, Senior Physiotherapist Cancer Services, Mater Hospital Brisbane graduated in 2001. She has worked in both public and private hospitals in Australia and England. She was a committee member for the Australian Physiotherapy Association, Cancer, Palliative Care and Lymphoedema, QLD branch from 2016 till 2024. She is currently a committee member for the Australasian Lymphology Association education committee. Lisa is a certified Pinc Cancer Rehabilitation therapist and is also a lymphoedema trained therapist. She has a strong interest in treating complications from cancer surgery.
James Chirgwin, MACP, graduated in 2015 and is the senior oncology, haematology and palliative care physiotherapist at The Wesley Hospital in Brisbane. A member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association 'Cancer, Palliative Care and Lymphoedema' (CPCL), QLD committee since 2023, he has worked across public and private hospitals in QLD, Tasmania and the UK, with a particular interest in Oncology rehabilitation.
