This talk will cover the types of perineal trauma that can occur during childbirth including types of obstetric anal sphincter injuries and levator avulsion. Patient risk factors, prevention and initial as well as long term management will be discussed, with reference to current international guidelines and evidence.
Dr Rebecca Young (MBBS, MWomHMed, FRANZCOG, CU) is a Sydney based Urogynaecologist. She is a VMO at Royal North Shore Hospital and consults privately at the SAN at Wahroonga. She undertook her O&G training at RNSH and completed advanced gynaecological and laparoscopic training at Westmead Hospital. She undertook subspecialty training in Urogynaecology at Gold Coast University Hospital (Robina and Varsity Lakes) in Queensland and St George Pelvic Floor Unit in Sydney. Rebecca enjoys teaching and is a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at UNSW. She is actively involved with research and has published on mode of delivery outcomes after OASI, as well as the quality of training received by obstetricians in repairing OASI.
