This lecture will present an overview of the problem of pain in the Older person. It will explore issues related to physiological differences in the older person, challenges faced in the health-care system and ways in which physiotherapists could assist in assessing and managing pain in this population group.
Carlos Macias, APAM, graduated in Madrid, Spain in 2012. Carlos was initially involved in working with the Olympic Council in Madrid. Later on, Carlos moved to Australia to pursue a different path, and worked for Queensland Health in the Royal Brisbane and Women's hospital. It wasn't until 2020 that Carlos shifted his focus to Aged Care, where he enjoyed working on improving the health of our elderly population. Carlos is currently the QLD and Northern NSW Deputy State Manager at Encara, a national company providing Allied Health services in aged care, community and NDIS spaces.
Marie Vaughan is an aged care Nurse Practitioner who has worked across the sector in a variety of positions in non-profit and government organisations. She has recently written the APNA Foundations of Aged Care Nursing handbook and partnered in research with the National Aging Research Institute. She is committed to upholding the holding to rights of the older person.
