An overview of bowel dysfunction after colorectal cancer surgery and treatment including the prevalence and its impact on quality of life in cancer survivors, and a summary of current evidence for bowel function rehabilitation and physiotherapy intervention. The presentation will draw on the studies that Carol undertake during her PhD candidature, as well as a recent literature review.
Carol Chan, Physiotherapist BAppSci (Physio) PhD Candidate (USyd Medicine and Health), is a physiotherapist with an extensive clinical experience in pelvic floor disorders. Carol has a special interest in anorectal dysfunction and pathology, performing high resolution anorectal physiology assessment which allow her to assess and manage complex anorectal, other GI and pelvic conditions. Her interest in this field has led to her academic pursuit in this area. She is currently undertaking PhD through Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney with her dissertation on bowel dysfunction, surgical rehabilitation and the quality of life after colorectal cancer surgery and treatment.
