FND - Physiotherapy management of dissociative attacks

Monique Davies, APAM, is a Neurological Physiotherapist with extensive experience across public health settings (both inpatient and outpatient) in Australia and the UK, as well as in community rehabilitation and private practice. In 2023, she founded The Brain Physio, delivering specialised Neurological Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services to people in Perth, Western Australia, and via telehealth.

Monique developed an early interest in working with people with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), inspired by her collaboration with neurologist Dr Lay Kho, whose expertise and dedication to this cohort helped shape Monique’s clinical focus. Since then, she has undertaken extensive professional development in FND, including specialised training in the management of Functional Seizures through Re+Active Education, a US-based organisation focused on FND treatment and research.

A significant proportion of Monique’s clinical work now centres on FND and Functional Seizures, where she has achieved strong outcomes for her clients. In 2025, she was invited to present on FND at the ASSBI 7th Pacific Rim Conference on Brain Health and Intersectionality in Brisbane, where her work received positive feedback from leading neuropsychologists.

Recognising that Functional Seizures are the most common presentation of FND—and that access to appropriately trained psychologists remains limited—Monique is passionate about supporting and upskilling other allied health professionals. Her goal is to build confidence in the management of Functional Seizures, improving access to timely, effective care and helping to prevent long-term disability for those affected.
