Dr Jim Kantidakis is an expert Gut-directed Psychologist and Clinical Hypnotherapist, and one of the first experts in Australia to use psychological / hypnotherapy treatment on individualised diagnosed with gastrointestinal problems. He is also the only known psychologist to provide paediatric psychological and hypnotherapy in Australia.
Dr Jim Kantidakis is a gastrointestinal (GI) specialist clinical psychologist and gut-directed hypnotherapist, and one of the first in Australia to utilise evidence-based psychological and hypnotherapeutic treatment for individuals diagnosed with gastrointestinal disorders. With over 18 years of clinical experience, Dr Kantidakis has extensive expertise and a wealth of knowledge in the field, also known as psychogastroenterology.
Dr Kantidakis has travelled and undergo training from leading Gastroenterologist and founder of gut-directed hypnotherapy, Prof Whorwell and his team in Manchester, UK. He also spent time in multiple gastroenterology departments in the USA, including North Western University Hospital in Chicago, Mount Sinai Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre in New York, Drossman Care in North Carolina with Prof Doug Drossman and the Boston Children’s Hospital and Connecticut Children’s Hospital GI departments. Dr Kantidakis has presented at several gastrointestinal conferences and events, including two Australian gastrointestinal conferences, the Australian Neuro-Gastrointestinal and Motility conferences, Continence symposiums, and an IBD Nurses education event. He has also provided educational training to gastroenterologist registrars and conducted workshops on the psychological effects of IBD.
Dr Kantidakis completed a doctoral thesis examining the psychological factors contributing to distress and quality of life in individuals diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. His interest in this area has resulted in him undergoing training at St. Vincent’s Hospital Public IBD Counselling clinic, leading to establishing a private IBD Counselling Clinic in 2010 within The Gut Centre. Additionally, he has also worked as part of a multidisciplinary team at St. Vincent’s Hospital (Melbourne) Functional Gut Clinic.
