  • Overview

LGBTQIA+ individuals experience significantly poorer health and barriers to healthcare, as well as broader psychosocial issues. Negative experience can have a significant impact on access to, and utilisation of, healthcare. This introductory module is an evidence-based, interactive course designed to equip physiotherapists with the skills and knowledge to enable appropriate, and culturally safe, provision of physiotherapy to individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+.

This course may also be valuable refresher training or CPD for experienced physiotherapists.

There are six topics and a quiz at the end:

  1. LGBTQIA+, Brotherboy & Sistergirl Health in Australia
  2. Key terminology
  3. Communication
  4. Inclusive spaces
  5. LGBTQIA+ specific health needs
  6. Support for clients

This online course is targeted at physiotherapists working in Australia and includes resources and information about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; most of the content will be valuable and transferable for those outside Australia.
