This online lecture will explore the interaction between pain and thoughts. We will provide an overview of the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) framework and unpack some of the common thinking styles that people with chronic pain experience, such as catastrophising and all or nothing thinking. We will also consider pain cognitions, beliefs and expectations, how this can impact pain and recovery. The second half of this session will be a facilitated Q&A discussion focussing on how this applies to physio, including how physio can identify these thinking styles and what we can do about it in clinical practice.
