Dr Samya Lakis, Orthopaedic Surgeon, will provide an overview of the management of idiopathic scoliosis in children. She will present the decision making process that leads to surgery and discuss surgical techniques and post-operative care.

Presenter/s

Dr Samya Lakis graduated from university in Western Australia and travelled to NSW to continue her training in Orthopaedics. She has a love of spines and completed 2 years post fellowship training in trauma and adult degenerative spine conditions with included subspecialty training in New Zealand for general Paediatrics and Paediatric spine deformities. Dr Lakis’ work has a heavy paediatric focus, however she also enjoys seeing adult scoliosis patients. She loves what she does and is more of a pragmatist at heart re; risks and benefits of spine surgery and especially finds the technical challenge appealing. Dr Lakis has a 19 year old child, some dogs and cats and enjoys being a ’tourist in Sydney’ and exploring it all.
