This lecture on self-management focused balance and mobility training for people with Multiple Sclerosis will review specific exercise principles for falls prevention in this client group delivered via face to face circuit training with rapid transition into Telerehab during COVID-19. Based on a series of research projects led by Emeritus Professor Sheila Lennon in collaboration with Flinders Master of Physiotherapy alumni, this Falls Prevention Program is offered by the MS Society of South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Emeritus Professor Sheila Lennon, Foundation Chair of physiotherapy at Flinders University in Adelaide, has worked internationally in Canada, Switzerland, the UK and Australia in a physiotherapy career that has spanned over 40 years. Sheila holds a statutory appointment as practitioner-member for South Australia with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia. She works clinically for the MS Society of South Australia. Her area of research and teaching expertise is neurological rehabilitation. She is SA chair of the National Neurology Group. She is on the executive board of the International Neurological Physiotherapy Association (INPA) of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy. She is the author of 60 peer reviewed papers, and two international textbooks on neurological physiotherapy, and the physical management of neurological conditions. Her current interests are upper limb rehabilitation following stroke including Constraint-induced Movement Therapy (CIMT), and exercise therapy/falls prevention for people with Multiple Sclerosis. |
