General introduction to visual impairment, information on profession/training of orientation and mobility specialists, assessments to determine function, range services available for children with visual impairment, how our professions can work collaboratively and intervention and treatment strategies for children with visual impairments including the use of guide dogs. Dr Bronwen Scott is a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) based in Melbourne, Australia. She has over 35 years of experience teaching orientation and mobility (O&M) to children and adults in both Australia and the United Kingdom. Bronwen has previously been involved in coordinating and training O&M Specialists in the UK and Australia, and currently lectures for Macquarie University on the Master of Disability (Sensory Disability) program. She works as an independent O&M specialist supporting children and families across several Australian States. Bronwen’s doctoral thesis explored early childhood O&M, and she also has a particular interest in working with children with cerebral/cortical vision impairment (CVI).
