One in 5 Australians are reported to have some form of mental ill-health at any time. There is no doubt that we, as colleagues, clinicians and community members, have interactions where we are required to manage mental health wellbeing and psychosocial health in some way.
Across the country, within Work Health and Safety legislation, there is greater recognition that work plays a significant part in mental health. This session aims to highlight some of the experiences, influence and role a physio may have in the management of mental health and psychosocial hazards in the workplace.
Michelle Strother, APAM, is a mother and wife within a FIFO family. She is a physio with almost 20 years experience in occupational health which includes OHS Post Grad and Masters of Ergonomics, Health and Safety amongst other complimentary and non-physio qualifications.
She is currently a WHS Practitioner for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA and spend much of her week supporting small to medium business in the WHS activities as a consultant.
For much of the past 20 years, she has been the Director and principal consultant leading a team of occupational health allied health providers conducting a diverse range of occupational health projects including job readiness, injury prevention strategies, risk management, workers compensation rehabilitation, early intervention assessment and training.
Her experience in mental health and psychosocial hazard is from both, my professional world of FIFO/mining and occupational health and her personal/lived experience
