Overview

Presented by the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) in combination with Women’s Health Training Associates (WHTA),  this series of six online lectures provides the background knowledge underpinning introductory clinical practice in women’s pelvic health. The content introduces the physiotherapist to normal bladder and bowel function, bladder, bowel and pelvic organ support dysfunctions, as well as first-line introductory assessment and treatment of the female pelvic floor patient.

 

Important: These lectures are required to be completed prior to attending the  APA Level 1 Women’s Pelvic Health face-to-face course (1 day).

Learning outcomes

At the end of course, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of the urinary and digestive systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of function and dysfunction of the pelvic floor muscles, as well as bladder, bowel and support dysfunctions
  • Demonstrate knowledge of an introductory level pelvic health subjective assessment based off the Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaire (APFQ)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of introductory objective assessment of pelvic floor, bladder and bowel function, including trans abdominal real time ultrasound
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the role of physiotherapy in the promotion of pelvic health and introductory management of pelvic floor
