Held as a collaboration between AMSA, RACGP, Australian Physiotherapy Association, and Australian Doctors Network, there is a great line up of speakers to give you all the tips and tricks about pain medicine.
Attendees will learn to:
- Apply strategies in targeted history taking and sensitive patient communication including defining terminology, reducing myths and barriers, and understand the impact of language used on patient perception of pain.
- Increase patient coping, encourage adherence to conservative treatment and facilitate empowerment.
- Identify the role of the MDT, appreciate and discuss non-pharmacological treatment options and know when to refer patients
- Explain maladaptive neuroplasticity and hyperalgesia and be able to recognise the influence of biopsychosocial factors on perception of pain, including exacerbating and relieving factors.
- Understand and apply principles of safe prescribing, including opioids
- Appreciate the role of pain management in specialised areas, including pelvic pain and palliative care
