The new online MASTERING LOWER LIMB TENDINOPATHY COURSE provides a comprehensive and up-to-date research and clinical perspective for common lower limb tendinopathies.

Modules 1 to 4: Theoretical basis of tendinopathy. More than 4 hours of video engaging video content that provides detailed yet clinically relevant and digestible information on structure and function, pain and pathology in tendinopathy, aetiology, common clinical impairments, as well as assessment and management principles. 

Modules 5 to 9: A complete walk through of assessment and management of common lower limb tendinopathies, including Achilles, plantar fascia, tibialis posterior, patellar, proximal hamstring and gluteal. This includes differential diagnosis, assessment, impairment and kinetic chain assessment, biomechanics considerations, rehabilitation, and adjunct treatments.

Whether you are a new graduate or very experienced clinician, you will come away with many answers to your questions as well as clinical gems to take away.

Presenter

Delivered by A/Prof Peter Malliaras, physio PhD and tendinopathy clinician-scientist. Peter has a respected international clinical and research profile, and is consulted by many people for a second opinion regarding their tendon injuries, including elite athletes and performers (eg football, rugby, ballet, and tennis). He works as an Associate Professor at Monash University, focusing on tendinopathy research, and runs a tertiary referral 2nd opinion lower limb tendinopathy consultancy service in Melbourne.

Learning outcomes

  • Module 1: Understand the tendon structure, the difference between energy storage and positional tendons, tendon function during human movement as well as homeostasis and adaptation.
  • Module 2: Describe pathology and pain processors in tendinopathy and how this applies to clinical management.
  • Module 3: Describe risk factors and impairments associated with lower limb tendinopathy
  • Module 4: Develop an accurate and systematic approach to diagnosis, assessment and management of lower limb tendinopathies.
  • Modules 5-8: Develop advanced knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning related to assessment, management and rehabilitation of people with common lower limb tendinopathies
  • Module 9: Develop clinical reasoning skills in the application of adjunct and invasive treatments in tendinopathy, including shockwave therapy, manual therapy, electrotherapy as well as medications, injections and surgery.
