A Clinician’s Guide to Respiratory Management in Acute Spinal Cord Injury

Presenter

Alicia Agli is an Advanced Physiotherapist working in the Intensive Care Unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital, with extensive experience in the management of critically ill patients. She has been actively involved in multiple research studies over the course of her career, contributing to advancements in evidence-based physiotherapy practice within intensive care. Alicia has a particular clinical interest in the management of acute spinal cord injury, as well as early mobilisation of mechanically ventilated patients and those receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). She is passionate about optimising patient outcomes through early intervention and innovative rehabilitation strategies. In addition to her clinical and research work, Alicia is highly committed to education, playing a key role in teaching and mentoring staff within the intensive care setting.

Danielle Radburn, APAM, is an Advanced Physiotherapist working within the Queensland Spinal Cord Injuries Service, where she has worked across the full continuum of care, spanning acute, subacute, and community settings. She currently works as the physiotherapist for the QuickStart team, providing specialist support to patients and clinicians managing newly diagnosed spinal cord injuries across Queensland. Danielle has a strong clinical and research interest in respiratory management in spinal cord injury, with a particular focus on optimising respiratory outcomes in the acute phase. She is currently involved in research exploring the use of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in individuals with spinal cord injury, aiming to improve respiratory function and patient outcomes
