Join us for an evening with Paralympics Australia and International Classifier Joanne Morrell, to help clarify pathways and classification requirements, so clients can participate in para-sport.
This lecture will provide a foundational understanding of Para-Sport in Australia and delve more specifically in how to support clients to access classification so they can participate in local, regional and international competitions.
Campbell Message
As a disabled person with experience competing in elite and Paralympic sport (including winning a silver medal in Wheelchair basketball at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games), Campbell has furthered his multidimensional understanding of disability through working across allied health (in Spinal Injury Rehab), disability research, consultancy, and more recently with Paralympics Australia as a Pathways Specialist. He has an interest in reinforcing high expectations of potential for people with disability: for both them, and broader society.
Sarah Skidmore
With over 10 years’ experience working in the New Zealand and Australian sports systems, Sarah has combined her passion for sport participation & performance, with advocating for greater opportunities for people with a disability, both in sport and broader society, through her role as a Pathways Specialist at Paralympics Australia. In her current role, Sarah enjoys connecting with and supporting Para-athletes, their support networks, and other key system stakeholders to understand, navigate, and strengthen Para-sport pathways, to enable them to reach their full potential and enjoy the journey!
Joanne Morrell, APAM
Following formative years at RPAH and Great Ormond Hospital for Sick Kids, Jo returned to Tasmania with a focus on CP, ABI, and Developmental Delays. She has a community focus, and created previously non-existing paediatric services in Wynyard and Albury followed before moving to Wollongong. Jo has a strong focus on motivating parents to guide their kids to be active and participate, with sport being an option! Jo has been a classifier since 2007 including International Classifier (CP Football and Taekwondo), National Classifier (Athletics) and more recently Classification Consultant for Paralympics Australia. She has been a classifier internationally in Ukraine, Darwin, Netherlands, South Korea, Peru, Philippines, Spain, UK, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia and Chile. Experience as a classifier has transformed Jo's approach to her people with a physical impairment.
