An evening considering the evolving role of the Sport and Exercise Physiotherapist in the recognition and management of concussion. A review of where we’ve come from, the state of play in 2025, the latest research and some practical considerations for managing simple and complex concussion cases.
Byron Field, MACP, is the lead physiotherapist for the Australian Wallabies Rugby Union team. He is completing his PhD in Concussion Recognition through the University of Canberra. Byron has worked as a Sport and Exercise Physiotherapist in Australia and in the UK predominantly in professional Rugby Union. His main clinical interests are in concussion and shoulder injuries with his current research looking at head kinematics in women's rugby players.
