Early mobilisation interventions are “core business” for physiotherapists working in hospital settings. This session explores the evidence for early mobilisation in different contexts and outlines the outcomes of recent studies that have investigated its feasibility and effectiveness.
Jenna Lang
Jenna Lang is a critical care physiotherapist at Western Health and is currently completing her Master of Philosophy at Monash University. Jenna's research focuses on the quality of existing guidelines and training for clinicians providing rehabilitation interventions in the intensive care unit, and she has received funding to complete a Delphi study to determine the core components of a competency assessment tool for physiotherapists providing early mobilisation interventions to the critically ill.
Melanie Lloyd
Melanie Lloyd is a physiotherapist and PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne, where her research is focusing on pragmatic clinical trials in complex multimorbid populations. She recently led a large multidisciplinary research program that investigated the effectiveness of evidence-based interventions in community-acquired pneumonia. Clinically, her interests are in management of respiratory conditions and vestibular dysfunction.
Clarice Tang
Dr Clarice Tang is a Senior Lecturer in Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy at the University of Western Sydney, and an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist in the outpatient musculoskeletal clinics at Western Health. Her research focuses on implementing new strategies to improve engagement and optimise management for people with chronic cardiorespiratory diseases over various clinical settings. She is particularly passionate about improving engagement in physical activities and disease management for people with chronic diseases from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background.
