Prof Rana Hinman is a physiotherapist and Australian Research Council Future Fellow at the University of Melbourne, where she is employed as an academic researcher within the Centre for Health, Exercise & Sports Medicine. Her research focuses on musculoskeletal health, primarily osteoarthritis, of the hip and knee joints. A major area of her research is the development and/or evaluation of non-drug non-surgical treatment strategies for osteoarthritis, in particular exercise. She also conducts laboratory-based research evaluating the role of biomechanical factors in osteoarthritis disease/symptoms. This includes the development and evaluation of non-surgical biomechanical treatments (such as orthoses, footwear and gait modification) for their effects on osteoarthritis symptoms and structural joint changes. She has published extensively and is the recipient of multiple national research grants.
