This lecture will focus on wheelchair sports for all abilities and will provide an overview of focussing on the role Physiotherapists play in Wheelchair Sports. This includes sport from the grass roots to the elite level and accessing NDIS to increase participation in sport within Australia. 

 

Presenter

Faith Voytas, APAM, graduated from the University of Sydney with a Master of Physiotherapy.  Recently, she was awarded a Women’s Leaders in Sport grant from ASC (Australian Sports Commission) supporting the finalization of becoming Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist. In 2023, she will be commencing Masters of Sports Medicine studies, University of Melbourne.  Faith has experience with patients and athletes in a variety of environments for example NFP and community settings, private practice, public and private hospitals, Australian and international sport tournaments as the Team Physiotherapist for the New South Wales and Australian Goalball teams, Queensland and Australian Wheelchair Basketball teams, the Qld Wheelchair Rugby team, and Paralympic athletes.  In October this year, she will travel with Australian U25 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team to the World Championships in Thailand.

 

Victoria Kahn, MACP, is an APA Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist. She graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne and completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy at La Trobe University. Victoria has been the team physiotherapist for many paralympic games, including the Australian Wheelchair Rugby Team & the Equestrian Team. Vic will be presenting on pathways for athletes to get involved in paralympic sport, classification for athletes with a disability, becoming a classifier, skill acquisition and outcome measures and the role of a sports physio in both pathway and high performance programs.
