People handling across the lifespan series - Problem solving in complex situations - Integrating client goals, environment, equipment and working as part of the multidisciplinary team.
Case studies in Disability and Transition Care settings will be presented for discussion by a panel comprising Physiotherapists (Louise Andrews, Dr Michelle Geurin and Jo Tan) and Occupational Therapist (Lorraine Ng).
Attendees will be able to contribute their own complex case scenarios for the Panel to discuss.
Louise Andrews, APAM, graduated from the University of Ulster and has over 15 years of experience in private practice and the Department of Education Queensland, including 10 years supporting students in schools. She specialises in neuromuscular and genetic conditions, neurodivergence, and complex physical needs. Louise has a strong interest in people handling, inclusive learning, aquatic therapy, and equipment prescription. She is passionate about supporting teenagers and young adults to participate meaningfully and with autonomy across school, community, and recreational settings.
Lorraine Ng is a principal occupational therapist for SALHN mental Health. The majority of her career has been spent addressing behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia and working with older people who have moderate to severe cognitive impairment, mental health conditions or complex multifactorial discharge barriers to transition home from hospital in a sustainable way.
Dr Michelle Guerin, APAM, PhD, B.Physio, is a Senior Lecturer at the University of South Australia within the Allied Health and Human Performance Academic Unit. Michelle is interested in improving the quality of health care through teaching and researching in evidence-based practice, service delivery and health care system design across a range of areas including acute, community, disability and aged care. Michelle’s teaching and research has a strong focus on those that are vulnerable in our health care system.
Joanna-lee Tan (Jo), MACP, is a Titled APA Gerontological Physiotherapist and immediate APA Gerontology group National Chair. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Management. Jo is currently an Innovation Manager for ARIIA (Aged Care Research Industry innovation Australia) based at Flinders University.
