Sports Related Concussion (SRC): The role of physiotherapy in acute care, rehabilitation and safe return to play

This lecture will present some of the latest evidence-based research surrounding SRC and the role that physiotherapy plays in acute care, rehabilitation and safe return to sport. The interest in SRC continues to grow in this complex and evolving presentation, and physiotherapy is often at the forefront of clinical care and decision making.

In addition to examining the safe return to play for the concussed athlete, the latest information surrounding SRC in female athletes and managing return to school for adolescents will also be presented. David also attended the open sessions of the 6th International Consensus Conference on Concussion in Sport, held in Amsterdam October 2022.

Presenter

Dr David Munro, APAM, is a physiotherapist with nearly 30 year’s experience who also holds a PhD from Monash University. He is an ImPACT accredited concussion trained practitioner working closely in the concussion space for over 10 years. In addition to being a private practitioner, David has been the Head Physiotherapist at The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) situated in Melbourne for the last 21 years and helped develop the first concussion protocol for circus artists used globally. David consults regularly with a number of Melbourne based sporting leagues and schools facilitating education sessions and concussion protocol development utilising the latest evidence-based research data.
