Florencia Montes, Audiologist from Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick, will present an overview of the assessment of the vestibular apparatus using cVEMP in a young infant and vHIT technology in a child.

Christine Jessop, Paediatric Physiotherapist from Kids First Physio, will outline the assessments of the vestibular system that can be completed in the clinic setting and provide an introduction to the topic of vestibular rehabilitation in children with vestibular dysfunction.

Presenter/s

Florencia Montes is a senior audiologist and shared Head of Department at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.  Florencia has extensive experience as a diagnostic audiologist and particularly in the assessments of infant’s hearing. Due to the high rate of vestibular dysfunction in children with hearing loss and the impact on development, Florencia is interested in assessing vestibular function in babies diagnosed with a hearing loss. A pilot program has commenced at SCH, in conjunction with Physiotherapy.

Christine Jessop is the principal at Kids First Physiotherapy, a private practice in Brisbane.  Christine has a Masters in Paediatric Physiotherapy and is Bobath/NDT trained.  She completed the Paediatric Vestibular Rehabilitation Competency Based Course in 2016 in the US, under Dr Rose Marie Rine, Dr Sylvette Weiner-Vacher and Dr Jennifer Christy, and in 2017 she completed an Advance Vestibular Rehabilitation course in Sydney.  She has been a practising physiotherapist for 28 years with over 24 years of experience working with children.  Christine has worked as a senior clinician at the Royal Children’s Hospital (Brisbane), the Royal Children’s Hospital (Melbourne), and in community paediatrics in the UK and in Brisbane.  Christine’s private practice provides therapy to children with disabilities, neurodevelopmental concerns, and vestibular dysfunction.
