To provide an update for APA members on advocacy, news, future changes, and achievements in the industry. This event will host several panellists from the national Gerontology Committee and APA board of directors. Panellists will provide reflection on how the reforms in aged care have affected physiotherapy, where the APA has contributed to government consultations on the design of the new system and an update on the titling process with the Australian College of Physiotherapists. Topics will include an update on past, current and planned APA submissions and advocacy on relevant topics including the the new Aged Care Act, Support at Home Program, Integrated Assessment Tool (IAT), ANACC and more!

 

Presenters

Joanna Tan, MACP, is an Adelaide based physiotherapist and current APA Gerontology group National Chair. Jo has worked around Australia as a physiotherapist in private practice, hospital, community and residential aged care. APA representative on National Aged Care Alliance. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Management.

Rik Dawson, MACP, is a titled Gerontological Physiotherapist and is a Director for the Australian Physiotherapy Association. Rik is the APA representative for the National Aged Care Alliance.  Rik is the Clinical Governance Manger for Dimple Physiotherapy which employs physios to over 2000 RACFs and community programs in nationally.

Shiva Gopalan, APAM, has 14 years experience in the healthcare sector and prides himself in his ability to lead teams and achieve positive outcomes for organisations through system and process improvement. Currently Shiva works for Warrigal as their Wellness and Lifestyle Manager looking after physiotherapy services and lifestyle services for older people. In 2018 Shiva was a finalist for the IBC young executive of the year award.

Hannah Sharma, APAM, has been working as a physiotherapist in sub-acute inpatient public health settings for over 14 years. Recently, Hannah completed her Masters in Clinical Education at the University of Melbourne. She is involved in sessional tutoring within the Gerontology modules at The University of Melbourne and Swinburne University. Besides this, Hannah chairs the APA VIC gerontology committee and is an assessor for the Australian Physiotherapy council. Her current research project is exploring experiences and perceptions of gerontological physiotherapy clinical supervisors of teaching clinical reasoning.
