This presentation will provide an understanding of the Queensland compensation schemes including: patient rights and entitlements, refunds for treatment, income support and lump sum payment. It will provide an overview of the disputes processes and how to challenge decisions. In addition we will explain why lawyers ask for health records and make recommendations around clinical record keeping for physiotherapists.

 

Presenter

Tanya Straguszi is a Principal and Cairns Regional Office Leader at Maurice Blackburn. An experienced workers’ compensation, road injuries and public liability expert she became a lawyer to help people, and takes great pride and satisfaction in achieving fair outcomes for her clients who have been wronged. Tanya provides her clients and their families with a way to fight unfair treatment by combining local knowledge with the strength and backing of a national firm. In addition to her work advocating for her injured clients Tanya is Vice President of the Board of Management of ARC Disability Services Inc. ARC is a community based organisation with a long history in the Cairns and Far North, supporting children and adults who have a disability their families and support networks. Tanya regularly helps people who are living with brain injury, disability and/or catastrophic injuries to access their legal rights and entitlements, and knows too well that such injuries and/or disabilities can have a far-reaching impact on family, friends, work colleagues and the general community.
